New York CNN —Marjorie Taylor Greene has exposed the fault lines in right-wing media. While The Journal has showered Johnson in glowing praise, Fox News and the Post have gone different routes. Yet, it’s unlikely she will emerge from this battle victorious — a reality that has underscored the importance of Murdoch’s right-wing media empire. While the winds might not entirely favor Greene and the MAGA Media hardliners in this very moment, they do appear to be shifting. That could very well pale in comparison to what the rising, more extremist wing of right-wing media delivers in the years ahead.

Harris was nearby in Minnesota, making what is believed to be the first visit of a sitting president or vice president to a clinic that provides abortion services. “Big crowds in Fort Pierce, Florida, for the Biden induced Witch Hunt against his political opponent, ME!,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. The president has been barnstorming key swing states since delivering a combative State of the Union address a week ago. The vice president, the first woman in her position, spoke frankly about the medical care provided at clinics like the one she visited. “I will never do anything that will jeopardize or hurt Social Security or Medicare,” Trump told the right-wing news outlet during a sitdown at Mar-a-Lago.

This was nothing short of a communist invasion, in his eyes, and the patriots of Green Charter needed to rise up and confront the Red Peril. But the backlash in Green Charter represents something seldom seen since the Red Scare: a quasi-militant, homegrown resistance to the perceived threat of communism at home. But as the war over Gotion began to consume Green Charter, Riebow began to feel that the township board was behaving "too secretly." It's easy to dismiss what's happened in Green Charter as yet another sign of America's descent into dangerous incivility. Asked about Gotion's plans in Green Charter, Panetta replied, "I don't think there's any question that they are going to take advantage of that situation."

New York CNN —There is a dangerous undercurrent dragging Americans who wade into the political waters out toward the extreme. But much of the national press, basking ashore on the sun-soaked beach, refuses to acknowledge it in a serious manner. Instead, many journalists have grown comfortable glossing over the treacherous rip tide lurking beneath the surface of the water before their very eyes. Embarrassingly, Ron DeSantis has done more in recent days than most in the press to call attention to the matter. For one, it is still perhaps uncomfortable to acknowledge the depths of dishonesty in which much of right-wing media now operates.

NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers for Donald Trump asked for a mistrial Wednesday in the New York civil fraud case that threatens the former president’s real estate empire. Testifying last week, Trump assailed Engoron as an “extremely hostile” judge and the trial as “very unfair." Political Cartoons View All 1250 ImagesTrump’s lawyers compiled weeks of complaints into their 30-page court filing seeking a mistrial. Engoron mentioned the mistrial request only briefly in court Wednesday as defense lawyers continued calling witnesses. Before the trial, Engoron ruled that Trump and other defendants committed fraud by exaggerating his net worth and the value of assets on his financial statements.

The judge in Trump's fraud trial lashed out, again, at his lawyer. Trump's lawyer, on Friday, asked permission to criticize her. AdvertisementAdvertisementA baffled, irked judge overseeing Donald Trump's family company's fraud trial in Manhattan criticized one of his lawyers again for his repeated attacks on his law clerk. "It's a shame you've descended to this level," New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron told Trump's lawyer Christopher Kise. Asked by a lawyer from the New York Attorney General's office what reporting Kise was talking about, the Trump lawyer was unsure.

CNN —In the aftermath of the 2020 election, Tom Emmer, a leading Republican candidate to be speaker of the House, baselessly said there were “questionable” practices in the 2020 presidential election. Later, Emmer signed an amicus brief in support of a last-ditch Texas lawsuit seeking to throw out the results in key swing states. Speaking with the radio show for the far-right publication Breitbart News 12 days after the election, Emmer baselessly suggested that mail-in ballots might have “skewed” the election against Trump. Emmer was quieter than many Republicans in the aftermath of the 2020 election. “There’s a process,” Emmer added.

CNN —Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday defended her approach to the first impeachment of then-President Donald Trump in 2019, in her first public comments on the Republican effort to launch an inquiry into President Joe Biden. As CNN previously reported, the speaker’s announcement “directing” a House committee to open a formal inquiry into Biden meant there would be no floor vote to formally authorize the effort, according to a GOP source. Skipping an impeachment inquiry vote would mark a departure from McCarthy’s previous comments on the matter, but the speaker earlier Wednesday placed the blame squarely on his predecessor. They’ve had what nine months of collecting information, they have nothing.”The House did hold a vote to launch the first impeachment inquiry into Trump, but about a month into probe. Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry on September 24, 2019, but the House did not vote on the matter until October 31.

At the time, McCarthy said he would hold a formal vote. "That's why today, I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Elizabeth Moore, VP of PR and Communications at Breitbart, told Reuters, “We never indicated that the DOJ is seeking or will seek the death penalty. “The Eighth Amendment rules out the death penalty unless the defendant intended or had a high degree of culpability with respect to the death of the victim. “Nor does it plead any of the aggravating factors -- from a list in the federal death penalty statute --that need to be specified. When seeking the death penalty, the indictment must include special findings as detailed in the DOJ’s Justice Manual (here). Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson could see two of the wealthiest GOP business megadonors, Rebekah Mercer and Peter Thiel, invest in his new media company, according to people familiar with the matter. Mercer has spoken with Carlson since his April departure from Fox News about possibly investing in his as yet unnamed media company, sources told CNBC. Thiel has hinted to allies that he could invest in the venture after hearing from Carlson's side, these people added. Shortly after leaving Fox, Carlson began hosting an episodic show on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Rebekah Mercer and Peter Thiel have for years been separate investors in a diverse array of conservative startups.

Trump weighed in on Mitch McConnell's recent health scare, in which he froze up at a podium. Trump said it was a "sad thing to see" — but spent most of his time bashing the GOP leader. “Obviously, the little girls that are going to see Barbie, none of them are going to have any idea what those dashes mean,” Mr. Cruz told Fox News. “This is really designed for the eyes of the Chinese censors, and they’re trying to kiss up to the Chinese Communist Party because they want to make money selling the movie.”The response on the right is not a one-off. For a generation of conservative personalities, weaned on Andrew Breitbart’s much-cited observation that “politics is downstream of culture,” Hollywood and other ostensibly liberal bastions are to be confronted head-on, lest their leanings ensnare young voters without a fight. Recent years have provided ample evidence, some on the right say, for a “go woke, go broke” view that progressivism is bad business. (Of course, there is no way to trace exactly what determines any movie’s success or failure, and many observers adhere to the screenwriter William Goldman’s axiom: “Nobody knows anything.”)“Barbie” cannot be said to have gone broke.

Kevin McCarthy publicly questioned if Donald Trump is the strongest GOP presidential candidate for 2024. Trump currently leads the GOP pack by a large margin in the hunt to become the next Republican presidential nominee. Speaking to CNBC about Trump, McCarthy said "Can he win that election? Yeah, he can win that election," McCarthy said. At this early point in the 2024 presidential race, national polling consistently shows Trump as the leading GOP candidate for president, far ahead of Florida Gov.

CNN —Speaker Kevin McCarthy has scrambled to contain the fallout after he questioned whether former President Donald Trump is the strongest candidate in the 2024 presidential race – comments that outraged Trump allies. McCarthy called Trump Tuesday morning to apologize, two sources familiar told CNN. The call came after McCarthy said during a CNBC interview that he thinks Trump can win in 2024, but does not know if he is the “strongest” candidate. Allies were pleased with McCarthy’s apology, though several Trump advisers told CNN they were still wary of the speaker. Not long after the call, McCarthy also walked back his remarks in an exclusive interview with the right-wing publication Breitbart.

CNN —Critics on Tuesday seized on the latest Trump tape as a perfect example of why the twice-impeached, twice-indicted former president is unfit to return to the Oval Office. On the audio – exclusively obtained by CNN – Trump discusses holding a secret document. In the tape, Trump seems to indicate he was holding up information that may be among the government’s most closely guarded secrets. As he often did in office, Trump appears to have been using US national security as a tool for his own personal or political gain. In response to the tape, Trump – as he often does – sought to redefine an apparent example of aberrant behavior as perfectly acceptable.

Sign up for the daily digest chronicling the evolving media landscape here. The assault on the American justice system was swift and savage. On Fox, the historic legal action was portrayed as President Joe Biden weaponizing the Justice Department to target his political opponent. In effect, Fox News is once again platforming those who are leading vicious and irresponsible attacks on the country’s criminal justice system. Across the right-wing media ecosystem, the narrative that a sinister deep-state was unfairly targeting Trump to knock him out of the 2024 presidential contest was pervasive.

How we searched for proof of Trump’s storyCNN conducted a broad search for any proof for Trump’s story. These articles did not mention anything about South American mental health facilities being emptied under President Joe Biden, nor feature any quote from a doctor at any such facility. We then reached out to a pro-Trump super PAC asking for evidence for Trump’s “mental institution” story, but a spokesperson didn’t respond. We next turned to two groups that advocate for reduced immigration, the Center for Immigration Studies and the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which would be good candidates to be aware of any such evidence. As a last resort, we posted Trump’s quotes on Twitter and invited the public to try to find support for them.
The tense back and forth inside Breitbart reflects a growing tension inside the right-wing media universe writ large — one that could have consequences for national politics. Ahead of the 2024 Republican primary contest, battle lines are starting to be drawn. It’s reminicent of what took place in right-wing media during the 2016 GOP primary season. But the manner in which the biggest mouthpieces in right-wing media cover the looming primary is highly consequential, and could ultimately decide who gets the party’s blessing. Republican primary voters primarily get their news from partisan outlets, such as Breitbart and Fox News, while shunning news from mainstream outlets.
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., walks out with House Republicans to speak about the passage of H.R. Goldman Sachs analysts wrote that their "base case remains for the debt limit deadline to fall in late July," as long as tax receipts only fall by 30%. This is the projected date the Treasury Department will exhaust the emergency measures it is taking to prevent a federal debt default. Instead, it is intended to serve as McCarthy's opening salvo in his looming negotiation with Biden over the debt limit and federal spending. Over the weekend, Emmer said that while the final bill might not be perfect, the alternative for a Republican House member would be worse.
